Frequently Asked Questions
These acronyms are short for the different types of electric power in vehicles
BEV is Battery Electric Vehicle and is where no liquid fuel is used - this is sometimes called a Pure Electric vehicle. e.g. MUSTANG MACH-E or NISSAN LEAF
PHEV is Plugin Hybrid Electric Vehicle, these have a battery that supports a petrol or diesel engine and can for short distances use EV power without the internal combustion engine. These need to be plugged into a power source to re-charge the battery. e.g. FORD KUGA PHEV or MAZDA CX-60
FHEV is Full Hybrid Electric Vehicle, these vehicles work similarly to PHEV but are charged by the petrol or diesel engine so do not require plugging into a charger e.g. Ford KUGA FHEV
mHEV is Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle, these use an Electric motor that supports a traditional petrol engine to give improved performance and better fuel economy and do not require charging. They also cannot be run on EV power alone. e.g. FORD PUMA mHEV
You have loads of options to charge your electric car.
You can simply charge from a domestic plug at home, or you can have a charger fitted; this will give you a quicker charge and allow you to schedule charging to take advantage of off-peak offers.
Rapid chargers are becoming more common across the country, including many in fast food restaurant car parks!
