Exclusive to Mazda, e-Skyactiv X burns petrol more efficiently thanks to our pioneering Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI). With SPCCI, an extremely lean mix of fuel and air are compressed to an extremely high pressure. A spark then ignites a very small, dense amount of fuel, which further raises the heat and pressure in the cylinder, causing the remaining fuel to ignite under pressure (like a diesel). This means you get all the performance of a naturally aspirated petrol engine, but with the fuel economy and low CO₂ emissions of a Diesel.
