Sandicliffe Leicester Transit Centre Ride for Jake
Last Saturday, Nick Osborne of Sandicliffe Leicester Transit Centre set out to support the Jake McCarthy Foundation.
June 20, 2019
On Saturday 15th June, our very own Nick Osborne, Group Commercial Sales Manager, joined 90 other cyclists in hope to raise money for a local cause – the Jake McCarthy Foundation. This amazing charity was founded in 2013 in honour of 24-year old Jake McCarthy who tragically lost his life to an undiagnosed brain tumour on 24th December 2012. Jake is said to have been a “bright, talented, beautiful son” who studied at Manchester Metropolitan University and sang lead for his band, Hot Horizons.

Now every year, loved ones, strangers and anybody wanting to support the cause get together to celebrate Jake’s life in the annual Ride for Jake event. Riders can participate in a 100-mile cycle from Rothley to Norfolk or a 50-mile cycle from Spalding to Norfolk. The event acts as a huge fundraiser to support the foundation’s aim of raising brain tumour awareness and funding the necessary research to ensure early diagnosis.

This year’s Ride for Jake will help to fund research into Glioblastomas in hope to find a cure for those living with the critical condition. It is reported that brain tumours are the number 1 cancer killer of UK children with over 16,000 people being diagnosed each year. When looking at numbers such as these, it is inspiring to see the local charity turn something so devastating into something positive for the benefit of thousands of people around the world. So far, the event has raised over £14,000 and is still open for donations!

Members of the foundation “were pleased to see the sun for perfect riding conditions” despite “all the rain we’ve had” recently and send a big “thank you to everyone who donated to our team”.

Sandicliffe Leicester Transit Centre has been supporting the Jake McCarthy Foundation for a number of years now and would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for allowing us to be a part of the fantastic cause.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this incredible achievement.
