The new 2015 Ford Mondeo is here. With cutting-edge technology, greater power and speed, is this the best Ford Mondeo yet? Here's all you need to know.
June 18, 2015
There’s no doubt about it; the Ford Mondeo is one of the most popular models on the UK car market. Since it was introduced 22 years ago, the iconic Mondeo has scooped up over 80 UK awards and sold a staggering 1,400,000. It has been relied on by families and commercial fleets alike – and has had an impressive revamp for 2015.
Your first thoughts might be, if it isn’t broken why fix it? But think of this more as enhancing an already winning model to make it stronger, more powerful and more versatile. WhatCar? Has already named the estate version Best Estate of 2015, with the hatchback and hybrid saloon also showing great promise.
Andrew Barratt, Sales Director at Ford of Britain says: “The new-look Ford Mondeo is obviously a really strong model for us…Plus we still have the 1.0-litre EcoBoost, 1.5-litre TDCi, All-Wheel Drive, 207bhp diesel and the Vignale to come.”
The new version of the Ford Mondeo may be stronger with more advanced technology behind it, but Ford haven’t made these changes for the sake of it. 2014 was the year when Ford replaced its whole commercial vehicle range and 45% of its retail range to keep up with competitors, Volkswagon Passat and BMW 3 Series. The 2015 Ford Mondeo was given makeover to keep up with these changes – and its rivals.
The new-look Ford Mondeo has been doing very well in the US and Asia as well, where it has been selling as ‘Fusion’ for some time. Therefore Ford predicts that in the UK, 20,000 Mondeo’s will be sold this year, along with “a 124% lease increase on last year” – according to Barratt.

Ford UK’s first ever hybrid engine in the new Mondeo is also predicted to encourage company car drivers and the higher-end buyers. It emits less than 100g of CO2 per kilometre and achieves 67.3mpg. Not only that, but the Ford Mondeo offers EcoBoost petrol engine options which produce 25% better fuel economy. If you prefer diesel engines, the 1.5 TDCi and 2.0 TDCi improve power, torque, economy and emissions all in one!
Back in 1995, our MP Tony Blair used the label ‘Mondeo Man’ to describe UK home and car owners in an affluent class. This year, the Ford Mondeo is aiming to appeal to a much broader market. In a huge study by Sewells Intelligence, they found that 50% of people considering lower, upper and executive cars would ‘definitely’ or ‘likely’ go for the 2015 Ford Mondeo as their first choice.
