Skoda Citigo
If you’re looking for a small car that is economical to run, the Skoda Citigo is perfect.
The most economical models are the GreenTech versions which are capable of returning 68.9mpg in combined fuel economy with emissions of 95g/km of CO2, making them exempt from annual road tax. Even the standard models can return 62.8mpg and emit only 105g/km of CO2, incurring a tiny amount of annual tax.
Carbuyer says that ‘perhaps the best thing about the Citigo is its excellent drive’ while Auto Express says that ‘the Skoda Citigo is at the forefront of the city car class’.
It was a combination of its light controls, neat looks and the superb interior quality that earned the little Skoda Auto Express’ Car of the Year in 2012 and Carbuyer\'s Best City Car for 2013.
Kia Picanto
When reviewing the new Kia Picanto, Autocar said that ‘Kia has achieved a level of perceived maturity with the latest Picanto that no rival can quite match.’
The Picanto is arguably one of the most stylish city cars, and has an upmarket look and feel. It is quiet and comfortable and one of the most economical and cheap to run cars in its class.
If you choose a Kia you also benefit from a market leading seven-year warranty and generously equipped interior. Carbuyer says that the Picanto ‘represents one of the most sensible new car packages on sale today.’
Ford Fiesta
The Ford Fiesta has been the UK’s bestselling car since 2009 and for good reason. It is a stylish and economical car with some of the most advanced technology in a family car. The Fiesta has rightly been recognised with countless awards over the last few years.
What Car? calls the Ford Fiesta ‘an utterly brilliant supermini that excels in all the important areas’ while Auto Express said the Fiesta is ‘a supermini of rare quality beloved of keen drivers and economy-minded families alike’ adding ‘the Ford Fiesta is one of the best cars Ford has ever produced.’
The Fiesta is cheap to run with a wide range of EcoBoost petrol and dispel engines. The 1.6-litre diesel promises 85.6mpg economy and 87g/km emissions when fitted to the super-green Fiesta ECOnetic, meaning that you get plenty from your tank and it won’t cost you anything in road tax. Autocar says the ECOnetic ‘blends strong economy, low emissions and strong handling in an impressive and tempting package.’
