The doughnut making duo behind Nottingham’s first doughnut café only began making their tasty treats at the start of this year. Within that time they have travelled the length and breadth of Nottingham’s Food Markets. Distributed their sweet treats throughout the city and have now opened Nottingham’s first independent doughnut shop!

Previously known as The Phat Doughnut Company, they already have a following of fans and rightfully so! Being avid fans at Sandicliffe we visited the new shop, located in the Old Market Square, within the first few days of the grand opening. Underground, decorated with an array of art and quirky design you can enjoy a doughnut and a hot drink for just £3.50! It is difficult to stick to just one but our personal favourite is the salted caramel! Make sure to get there nice and early as they sell out quickly!

It’s not hard to find a coffee shop in Nottingham but to find decent coffee is somewhat a difficult feat at times! The beans at 200 Degrees are selectively chosen from Rainforest Alliance certified farms from as far as Colombia and South India! They are then hand roasted with care at the Nottingham headquarters before ending up in a mug at the 200 Degrees Café just off the Old Market Square.

George’s are a local mini-chain of fish & chip shops that were established in the 80’s in Belper. Since then they have branched out and recently ventured into the city centre to their own swanky restaurant. Furnished with all sorts of British eccentricities, including beach huts and top hats!

Another independent business that grew from the ground up to find renowned success. Annie’s opened last year after their move from The Navigation pub to Nottingham’s Lace Market. Annie’s serves some of the best US style burgers around and with a very impressive menu too! Big portions (the Sunday roast burger is a challenge!), inventive creations and every mouthful is as good as the last.

Tea solves life’s problems, it’s a well-known fact. Lee Rosy’s offers all types of tea from everyday English breakfast to gingerbread orange or even cherry bakewell! It can take quite some time choosing out the right brew and that’s before you even get to the cakes and treats on display.

It’s not easy choosing a place for breakfast, especially when you want an authentic American – style diner that serves pancakes, bacon and maple syrup. Warsaw Diner may seem like a bit of a walk out of the centre, it can be found in Canning Circus among other charming bars, shops and cafes.

Whether you choose Bridlesmith Walk or Hounds Gate both tea rooms are similar to visiting your gran’s house. Traditional teapots, cups and saucers, animal-themed decorations and of course superb afternoon tea! Scones, cakes, sandwiches, paninis! Although both tea rooms are rather small in size this adds to the cosy experience! You may fancy a retreat from shopping or why not treat your gran to a pot of tea and a jam and cream drenched scone?
