New Nissan Z Proto Revealed After A Decade Since Last Gen
Nissan has revealed the hotly anticipated Nissan Z Proto – the successor of the famous 370Z. But how does it compare and will it come to the UK?

The Nissan Z range has always been a hot topic surrounding sports car enthusiasts and after 11 years since the last one was made, Nissan has revealed the newest generation. Introducing the Nissan Z Proto (a hint at the Nissan \'400Z\') – a prototype Z sports car with a twin-turbo V6 petrol engine mated to 6-speed manual gearbox.
Though we aren’t completely sure of the exact engine capacity, we have been told to assume the new Nissan Z model will provide more power than the 370Z. In other words, we can expect a bigger power output than 325bhp.
But Hiroshi Tamura, has noted that the new Nissan Z is more than just a symbol of horsepower, he explained the upcoming Nissan Z will be “a vehicle that creates a connection with the driver not just on the physical level, but emotionally, and responds to the driver’s impulses”.
The launch car was previewed in a yellow pearlescent paint colourway which Z fans will know is a subtle tribute to the first-gen Nissan Z and the Z32-gen 300ZX from back in the 90s. The retro aesthetic also shines through the Proto’s teardrop-shaped LED headlights similar to that of the 240ZG (Japan only spec – 1970s). Looking on sidewards, the new Nissan Z Proto also reminisces the first-generation Z through the manner of rear edge hanging slightly lower than the front edge.
The Nissan Z Proto gets a rectangular front-grille, a pair of exhaust pipes and 19-inch alloy wheels with colour-matched luminous ‘Z’ brake calipers arranged alongside carbon fibre elements including side panels that have been added as a nod to the future.
Inside, you get a 12.3-inch digital display instrument cluster replacing the 370Z analogue guages, a new ‘deep dish’ steering wheel and a brand-new built-in touchscreen infotainment system running Nissan’s latest tech topped with Nissan\'s iconic Z triple-metre gauges.
The interior is finished with an array of intricate materials, stitching and embellishments sweeping the cabin to guarantee an unmistakably sporty experience in the new Nissan Z.
Right now, the Nissan Z Proto is simply a concept, a peephole into what the Japanese brand are up to behind closed doors. For that reason, pricing isn’t available for the new generation Nissan Z just yet.
We expect delivery of a 2022 Nissan Z production model and hope to see a lot of the Nissan Z Proto be carried through, especially the twin-turbo V6 engine! But for now, the 370Z remains the latest generation Z model on the market. And for European and UK markets, that seems to remain the case…
News that the new Nissan Z won’t be making its way to both European and UK markets has disappointed the majority of Z fans around the continent and we wonder whether this is something Nissan could change their minds about in the future. But for now, it seems unlikely we’ll be seeing the new Nissan ‘400Z’ in the flesh.
