Sandicliffe is “Going Green” in 2022. Find out what that means for our business and how you can become more environmentally friendly in your home
May 02, 2022
Now Spring has sprung and the beauty of nature is revealing itself, we thought it was the perfect time to announce Sandicliffe’s new ‘Going Green’ initiative! Our “Going Green” plans for 2022 and beyond will benefit the environment, as well as the welfare of our customers and teams.
By becoming less electricity-intensive we will also be able to save money and become more profitable over the next year. This is an essential step toward making our business more sustainable and preparing us for a carbon-neutral future. All of our efforts can also be replicated at home, allowing you to join us in being kinder to the environment.
We would like to lower our energy consumption over the next 12 months, so we have been working with suppliers and partners including Carbon Number, Electrix Solutions, PWF Webb, Purchase Direct, and Rolton Group, to make that happen. This year, we will continue to take advice from our suppliers and industry leaders on best practices to keep our consumption low.
We are also making some maintenance changes to reduce our energy consumption. If you visit any of our Sandicliffe dealerships, you will notice that new LED light units have been fitted in areas that needed upgrading. This is alongside new heaters and boilers that are more energy-efficient and controllable. Timers and thermostats have also been checked and controlled for optimum business usage.
To help our business to become carbon neutral over the next few years, we have identified a few areas to target that will make us more environmentally friendly. As we work in an industry that is carbon-intensive, this can be a difficult target to achieve. But every member of our staff is fully committed to becoming less energy-intensive both in the office and at home.
We have already started working with some of our suppliers to reduce waste and ensure our operations are as efficient and effective as possible. This is just the start of our sustainability drive and we will also be taking measures to reduce our electricity consumption across all of our sites. If you would like to join us on this carbon crusade, we have some energy-saving tips that can help you “Go Green” at home.
There are a few simple things that we can all do to make our home and work life more energy-efficient. Employing our energy-saving tips in your home will make our “Going Green” initiative even more effective and will also save you money on your energy bills. To save energy at home and work you should:
Switching off all lights when they are not in use is one of the easiest ways to save energy. Old lightbulbs should also be replaced, as modern energy-saving bulbs are far more efficient. Ask yourself:
Switching off appliances and ensuring that they are not left on standby can save energy and add an extra level of security. Leaving devices on stand-by overnight also poses an insurance risk. Ask yourself:
Using less energy for heating the premises is a great way to save energy. When the sun comes out in the morning, building temperature can increase by 3 to 6 degrees in just a few hours. Therefore, lowering the thermostat in the morning will save that excess heat and avoid using cooling devices. Ask yourself:
To achieve maximum energy efficiency your devices need to be well maintained and operating correctly. You should regularly check all of your pipes and wiring for leaks, damage or faults. Using heating and cooling products at the same time also wastes energy. Ask yourself:
You can save energy by preparing your meals in bulk. Cooking several dishes at once saves the energy that is spent when heating the oven. Planning and preparing meals in advance will also cut down your waste. Ask yourself:
You can reduce your environmental impact by changing your driving habits. By keeping your speed to 56 mph you get a better MPG. You should also plan your journey in advance to find the most efficient route. You can lower your fuel usage further by driving smoothly and avoiding heavy braking and swift acceleration. Ask yourself:
Ensuring that you are recycling your waste properly can drastically reduce your environmental impact by avoiding general waste landfills. Ask yourself:
Proper insulation can also save you energy. You can remove draughts by securing equipment or simple draught excluder products. To avoid heat loss you can also use blinds over your windows instead of curtains. Additionally, wearing warm clothes in the morning and removing them as the temperature rises can also help you use less heating. Ask yourself:
