Ford BlueCruise is the latest Advanced Driver Assistance System that has been launched in Europe by Ford. This hands-free driving system allows drivers to maintain steering control while driving on designated "Blue Zones" in England, Scotland, and Wales.

The driver-facing camera located in the instrument cluster helps in reducing the scope for driver distraction while driving. Similar actions are performed if the driver fails to place their hands on the steering wheel or pay attention to the road.

This technology has been introduced in the UK with 2,300 miles of motorways and dual carriageways designated as "Blue Zones". These zones have been identified based on various factors such as worn-out lane markings, poor weather conditions, and roadworks.

The infrared driver-facing camera ensures that the driver remains focused on the road while using this latest Advanced Driver Assistance System. What is Ford BlueCruise

Ford BlueCruise is an automated system utilised in Ford cars, enabling hands-free driving like Tesla's FSD. It can change lanes, adjust speed based on road conditions, reposition your vehicle within a lane, interact with traffic, and apply emergency brakes. 

Blue Zones

There's no need to worry about missing out on using Ford BlueCruise, as over 95% of the country's motorways have been designated as "Ford Blue Zones". You can activate this feature simply by entering one of these zones. And, once you have enabled and completed automatic updates, your vehicle will have access to the latest Blue Zone routes.

Lane Centring

Ford BlueCruise uses intelligent Lane Centring technology to maintain steering control within lane markings when activated.

Adaptive Cruise Control

By combining Speed Sign Recognition with Adaptive Cruise Control, Ford BlueCruise automatically sets your speed to match the detected zone. If you enter an area with a slower or faster speed limit, the vehicle will gently increase or decrease your speed to match the new limit.

Driver Facing Camera

A driver-facing camera can be found in the instrument cluster to carefully monitor the driver’s head position and view, ensuring your attention is fully on the road before taking control.  When the system detects that the driver is not paying attention, it first displays warning messages on the instrument cluster. This is followed by audible alerts, brake activations, and slowing down of the vehicle while still allowing the driver to maintain steering control. The same sequence of actions is taken if the driver fails to place their hands back on the steering wheel after being prompted while leaving a Blue Zone.
