Since 1998, the Ford Focus has been one of the East Midlands’ best loved cars. Voted one of the greatest cars of the last 50 years by Car magazine, the latest sales figures show that the worldwide love affair with the Focus gets stronger and stronger. Indeed, new research has found that the Ford Focus is now the most popular new car on the planet. According to Polk registration data, the award winning model is the best-selling car in the world racking up an impressive 509,709 global sales in the first six months of 2013 – a massive 20 per cent more than it did in the first half of 2012. “For 15 years the Focus has been one of our best loved models,” said Adam Ferdinando, Head of New Car Retail at Sandicliffe, the East Midlands new and used car experts. “We’ve sold thousands of Focus models across the region, mainly because it’s simply the finest car in its class. And, the latest generation of Focus is the best yet, reflected in the fact that it’s now the most popular car on Earth.” The figure of 509,709 global sales equates to a staggering 84,951 Focuses per month, or 2,740 cars per day. Indeed, 114 Focuses are sold around the world every hour – nearly two every minute.
The UK accounts for 47,675 new Focuses alone, up 8.7 per cent on the 43,853 sold in the first half of 2012. And, it’s not just the Focus that is selling well with East Midlands drivers. The Fiesta has been the best-selling car in the UK for over a year and is the fourth biggest seller worldwide. “Fiesta and Focus just keep getting better,” said Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president, global marketing, sales and service. “This is Ford’s ‘One Ford’ global strategy at its best: great-looking vehicles with leading fuel economy, leading quality, technology and fun-to-drive personalities.” Mr Ferdinando from Sandicliffe, one of the East Midlands’ most trusted car experts, added: “Both the Ford Fiesta and Focus are so far ahead of their rivals that it’s no surprise that they continue to be in demand. With the two models getting better and better, I expect them to remain top of the shopping list for drivers across the region for some time to come.”
