Nissan has announced plans to introduce an innovative new powertrain to their electric range. Coming later this year, e-POWER will offer a quiet, responsive and efficient drive.
The all-new Nissan e-POWER hybrid powertrain will be introduced this summer. This innovative new powertrain is set to shape the future of Nissan electric driving. Offering a more responsive, more efficient and more comfortable experience, e-POWER will provide quiet, low-emission, EV driving, without needing to plug in and recharge.
The e-POWER powertrain will first be introduced to the Nissan Qashqai range. The Qashqai is already one of the most popular vehicles in the Nissan collection. The inclusion of the incredible e-POWER powertrain will allow this SUV to continue setting the standard in the crossover market.
Guillaume Cartier, Chairperson for Nissan’s AMIEO region, said that “the introduction of the innovative e-POWER system to the new Qashqai brings more of Nissan’s pioneering spirit to the crossover segment. Customers will love the feeling of driving an EV, but without consideration for charging.”
The Nissan Qashqai is already one of the best-selling vehicles at our Nissan Sandicliffe showrooms. We can’t wait for the new e-POWER system to arrive and make the Qashqai even more enjoyable to drive. Get in touch with our expert team to pre-register your interest in the new e-POWER Qashqai.
The e-POWER powertrain will revolutionise the Qashqai driving experience. It will offer the smooth and efficient driving of an all-electric vehicle, without the need to plug in and charge every night. Put simply, the e-POWER system marks the beginning of a new era of Nissan electric vehicles.
This unique approach to electrification is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder, turbo-charged, variable compression, 156hp petrol engine. This engine has been built for purpose and will become a key component in Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility strategy. With Intelligent Mobility, your everyday driving will be even more enjoyable and kind to the environment.
The new engine in the Nissan Qashqai provides a host of innovative features. It offers unique variable compression that allows the internal combustion engine to adjust its compression ratio while you are on the move. By adjusting to your driving needs during your journey, e-POWER offers optimal performance and economy at all times.
Alongside this innovative engine, there is a power generator, inverter and a 140kW electric motor. This offers the same high-powered electric capability as other Nissan electric vehicles, like the Nissan LEAF and e-NV200 van. With e-POWER, the petrol engine generates electricity. This energy is then transmitted to the battery pack, the electric motor, or both, based on your current driving needs.
This powertrain is unique because the electric motor is the sole source of power for the wheels. This is different from other hybrid vehicles. In a typical hybrid, the wheels will be powered by your combustion engine for most of your driving. The electric motor will then take over for short periods of time. With e-POWER, your hybrid’s wheels are powered solely by electricity.
David Moss, Nissan’s Senior Vice President for Research and Development in Europe, said that “the e-POWER system is a unique Nissan technology which puts efficiency and driving pleasure at the forefront of the driving experience. This technology offers the best of both worlds and represents the best of Nissan – bold, pioneering and innovative – while putting the driver first.”
Nissan took part in research that showed European crossover consumers spend over 70% of their driving time in urban environments. The e-POWER system is tailor-made for this style of driving. By eliminating the need to plug in and recharge, you can get even more out of your Qashqai and spend less time waiting for full power.
Arnaud Charpentier, Region Vice President, Product Strategy and Pricing, Nissan AMIEO region, thinks that “the Qashqai e-POWER will appeal to drivers who aren’t yet ready for a pure EV in their lives, but do want to be more eco-conscious and enjoy the fun-to-drive EV-feeling day-to-day.”
Summing up his excitement for the introduction of Nissan e-POWER, he went on to say that with “e-POWER technology, we feel that customers will fall in love with the feeling of an electric powertrain, without the range concerns (of an EV). It’s a powertrain which they will enjoy driving and represents an excellent option to be greener in their day-to-day life.”
