Founded by the community six decades ago, the club has grown into a beacon of local heritage and sporting achievement. Melton Mowbray Swim Club History
The club boasts a wide range of members, from young beginners as young as 7 to up to 78 years old. Among its notable members are former Olympian Jean Jeavons, who competed in the 1972 Munich Olympics, and European record holder Andy Banks. In the 2024 Country Championship, Melton Swimming Club showcased its talent by having 40 swimmers compete, resulting in an impressive haul of 30 gold medals, 9 silver medals, and 14 bronze medals, along with 32 final appearances. This outstanding performance is a testament to the club's dedication and the competitive spirit of its members.
Local Recognition and Awards
The club's achievements extend beyond the pool. Melton Swimming Club was honoured with the 'Club of the Year' award at the 'Get Moving Melton' awards, a recognition of its contribution to local sports and community well-being. This award underscores the club's commitment to fostering a positive and supportive environment for all its members. The club prides itself on a training philosophy that prioritises the well-being and enjoyment of its swimmers. "We are proud to be a happy club," says Jenny, the Melton Mowbray Swimming Club Chair. This focus on creating a nurturing and enjoyable atmosphere encourages lifelong participation in the sport, which has led to many previous members returning to the club years later.
