Nissan's engineering chief, David Moss honored with a prestigious award from Autocar.

David Moss, a highly respected engineer at Nissan’s research and development division, has been honored with the prestigious Mundy Award for Engineering by Autocar magazine. As the Senior Vice President for Research and Development in Nissan's Africa, Middle East, India, Europe, and Oceania region, Moss was recognized for his significant contributions to the development of the Nissan Qashqai, a vehicle that has become a standout success in the UK since its launch in 2007.

Mark Tisshaw, the editor of Autocar, commended Moss on his achievement, highlighting his expertise, experience, leadership, and management qualities. Moss, who has had a remarkable career with Nissan, was chosen for the award due to his pivotal role in creating and advancing the British-built Nissan Qashqai, which has sold over four million units and remains a top-selling car in the UK.

In his acceptance speech at the 2024 Autocar Awards, Moss expressed gratitude to Autocar for the recognition but emphasized that the award is a reflection of the collective efforts of his talented colleagues. He credited the success of the Qashqai to the dedication and skills of the team members across different countries involved in its production.

Working from Nissan Technical Centre Europe in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, Moss has been with Nissan since 1989, overseeing various aspects of vehicle development. He has been instrumental in the evolution of the Qashqai and is now leading his team in Nissan's transition to electric vehicles, focusing on reducing emissions and introducing innovative technologies to the market.

Under the EV36Zero project, Nissan's UK team, led by Moss, has secured a significant government grant to enhance the company's capabilities in zero-emission vehicle research and development. This funding is part of Nissan's broader strategy to establish a pioneering electric vehicle ecosystem in the UK, which includes plans for investment in renewable energy infrastructure, battery gigafactories, and new electric models of popular vehicles like the Qashqai.

The Mundy Award, named after British engineering icon Harry Mundy, celebrates Moss's exceptional contributions to the automotive industry and his leadership in driving innovation and sustainability within Nissan.
